Success Mindset: Change Your Thinking!

Yesterday was a particularly challenging day for me.  You know the kind of day I mean – I was in a success mindset and decided to make a big move forward.  I laid out all of my plans, entered them in my to do list and the big calendar.  I was all set!  Then, my plans got derailed when three friends called needing me to help them strategically think through their situations, and that took my focus in another direction.  Once I got back to work and my focus, I realized that my big step forward included a process and details I knew nothing about!  It was a process that I literally researched for 9 hours with very little headway.

Discouragement began to sit on my shoulders — on both of them!!  Then, it moved to my lower back, and all of the energy just seemed to drain from my body, taking me completely out of my success mindset. Can you relate?  Have you been there?  I’m sure you have.  It is actually a very common occurrence among humans.

There is within this scenario an easily recognizable pattern:

  1. High energy – decision for change
  2. High energy – a plan for how to accomplish the change
  3. High energy – a time set to begin
  4. High energy – begin
  5. Shock – hit a wall
  6. Fight – a struggle trying to kick through the wall
  7. Frustration – the struggle continues through a length of time
  8. Frustration and weariness – no really positive breakthroughs
  9. Decision time – quit or rethink

Believe me, I wanted to quit!

“I knew the plan sounded too easy, and now I can’t because…,” was what was roaring in my head. I began to mosey down the failure path.  I stopped to look at myself all bent over, feeling tired and ill, and I saw the beat-up wimp that I was becoming.

Right then and there, I grabbed my mind (you know…that thing that creates how we feel?) and reminded myself of the many times in my life when I have sat and literally cried until my head hurt because the struggle was so real and so intense.  I then called myself to revisit those victories!  Those times that I cried and then got up and WON!!  I became so excited and inspired!

I don’t have the answer to this particular situation yet…but I will, and I will win!  I am back to my success mindset because I changed my thinking!
